Covid-19: CT Positivity Rate Back Near 3 Percent; Latest Breakdown By County

After seeing a sharp spike in positive COVID-19 infection rates earlier in the week in Connecticut, the numbers are trending back in the right direction as it dipped below 3 percent.

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont said that there were 41,904 COVID-19 tests administered across the state on Wednesday, March 17, resulting in 1,156 confirmed infections.

The 2.76 positivity rate is down significantly from earlier in the week, when it sat at approximately 5 percent.

Fifteen new COVID-19-related deaths brought the total to 7,822 since the pandemic began more than a year ago.

Lamont said that 18 more COVID-19 patients were discharged from Connecticut hospitals, leaving 384 still being treated for the virus.

A total of 7.27 million COVID-19 tests have been administered in Connecticut, resulting in 295,484 laboratory-confirmed cases.

Lamont made note that Connecticut continues to be one of the nation's leaders in administering the COVID-19 vaccine, with 966,705 first doses and 536,736 second doses administered for a total of 1,467,233.

According to the Department of Health, as of Thursday, March 18, the following grounds have received at least one dose of the vaccine: 

  • 75+: 78 percent of the population;
  • 65-75: 74 percent;
  • 55-64: 46 percent;
  • 55+: 62 percent;
  • All adults 16+: 33 percent.

The eligibility will also be opening up to adults 45 and older beginning on Friday, March 19.

The latest breakdown of confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases in Connecticut, by county, according to the state Department of Health on March 18:

  • Fairfield: 84,510;
  • New Haven: 75,759;
  • Hartford: 72,636;
  • New London: 19,888;
  • Litchfield: 11,782;
  • Middlesex: 10,979;
  • Windham: 9,512;
  • Tolland: 8,227;
  • Unknown: 1,035.
